We Love You Corey Family

 Dear Parents,

We received the sad news today that one of our beloved students, Samantha Corey, passed away after a long battle with cancer. We read this statement to our students in each class this afternoon:

"It is with sadness we tell you about a death in our AFHS family. This morning, Samantha Corey passed from her long battle with cancer. Samantha was a senior who radiated positivity. She cared about everyone else. She made great efforts to come to school even when it was challenging, and she understood the importance of the little things in life.

Each of us will react to Samantha’s death in our own way, and we need to be respectful of each other and her family. It is normal to have strong feelings about this news whether you knew her or not.

You might find it difficult to concentrate on schoolwork for a little while. On the other hand, you might find that focusing on school helps take your mind off what has happened. Either is okay. Continuing with routines may feel difficult but can be helpful for emotional healing. In this spirit, we will continue with the school day, but if you need to, please talk with the people you trust most to process this news.

Know that your teachers are here for you. All of our counselors and administrators are here to help you. We are a Caveman family. We care and look after one another, and we truly believe that every single one of you is important. The counselors, therapist, administration and other service providers will be available for the rest of the week in Room 3 by the counseling office to provide support."

We wanted to make sure that you had this information. Thank you for your continued support as we all strive to support our students during these difficult times.

Sincerely,

Peter Glahn

Principal of American Fork High School
