Aaron had squamous cell carcinoma, (cancer) removed from his bottom lip today. If you would have told us this would happen a month ago, we wouldn't have believed you.
Aaron noticed a bump in his bottom lip about a month ago on a snowmobile trip with friends. This picture was taken on January 11th.
The sore kept growing. This next picture was taken January 23rd at the airport.
On Monday January 27th, Aaron scheduled an appointment with Utah Valley Dermatology. They were able to fit him in the following day.
They took a biopsy of the tissue and sent it off to a lab.
Our family fasted for Aaron and Abby on Sunday. We got a call yesterday confirming that it was cancer. Thursday mornings are set aside for surgeries. Thankfully, Aaron was able to secure a spot.
Dr Meyers performed a procedure called Mohs surgery. They remove a layer of tissue, examine it under a microscope, and repeat til they get all the cancer cells. Aaron had to have 2 layers removed plus a little skin under the lip. They stretched his lip and stitched him up. I am certain he'll be sore for a few days.
I took this picture just before the procedure.
They marked and numbed the tissue.
Then the dr cut out the first layer. Aaron bled a lot! They had to cauterize it.
I didnt get a picture after the second layer was cut out. Dr. Meyers put in a little stitch in Aaron's lip today begin stretching out the tissue.
Once they confirmed that they had gotten all the cancer, the cutest out a little nip in the skin below his lip. Some of the numbness had wore off, so Aaron asked for some more.
Here is the skin they removed below the lip.
They stitched Aaron up. He'll get his stitches out next Thursday.
So proud of my guy. He's a trooper.
