John Owen Benson, 83, passed away May 18, 2018 in American Fork, Utah. He was born on March 16, 1935 in Lynndyl, Utah to Owen Stubbs Benson and Alice Johnson Benson. Had 2 brothers and one sister. When John was 4 his family moved to Montibello, California where he grew up and attended school. At the age of 18 John enlisted in the Air Force where he served for 4 years in Korea during the Korean War. Upon returning home from the war John attended BYU. After BYU he returned to California where he met the love of his life at a stake dance. He married Dasimarie Larsen on January 14, 1961 in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. They have been happily married for 57 years.
John was a very hard worker. He worked for RCA for 25 years and Home Depot for the last 13 years right up to the day before his passing. John was a people person and could always be found talking and sharing stories with everyone he met. He loved working with his hands in his yard and wood shop. John’s greatest love was his wife and family. He was always so proud of all their accomplishments. John was an active member of the LDS church where he held various callings.
John’s legacy lives on by his loving wife Dee and his 6 children: Eric (Jill) Benson, John (Marchi) Benson, Kelly (Lee) Cabell, Christine (Ross) Franks, Janeen (Justin) Parduhn, and Joshua Benson, 20 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a sister Gloria (Clair) Gubler.
A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 6141 West 11000 North Highland, Utah. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Hillcrest 1st, Ward, 949 North 540 West, American Fork. Prior to the funeral service there will be a viewing at the church from 9:45 am-10:45 am. Interment will be at the Monroe City Cemetery Monroe Utah. Please share a memory at andersonmortuary.com.
