Last Thursday was the "Hill Celebration" at Utah State Developmental Center (My work). I haven't talked about USDC very much and I feel that I should since the residents are like my family away from home. The Hill Celebration is sort of like American Fork's Steel Days or Pleasant Grove's Strawberry Days. All of the residents, employees, and families attend the event. The day begins with a parade. The parade has policemen, marching bands, mascots, etc. (You name it, they've had it). Each building at USDC has a float in the parade that the residents help decorate. After the parade, there are several fun events. Employees and residents get a free lunch, there's a cake decorating contest, live music, a bean bag toss, a fishing pond, etc. There are also several booths with cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn, icecream, tatoos, etc. This year was the first time I've attended. I had such a great time and I know all of the residents did too.
Here's a great article that talks about USDC
